Initiative Design and Print was a small British independent publisher that became the last bastion of the press dedicated exclusively to the Amstrad PCW ecosystem. Founded and managed by Gareth J.S. Edwards, the company operated outside of mainstream commercial circuits, focusing on a direct subscription model and collaboration with user clubs.
Its flagship publication, PCW Today, was born in 1996 as a response to the disappearance of magazines like 8000 Plus. Through Initiative, technical support was offered that the official manufacturer no longer actively provided, comprehensively covering the launch and maintenance of the Amstrad PCW16 (Anne). Its semi-professional and artisanal production style allowed technical information to continue flowing until 2002, marking the end of an era for the collecting and professional use of the system in the United Kingdom.
