Argonaut Software was the undisputed pioneer in bringing real-time three-dimensional computer graphics to the mass consumer market. Founded in 1982 by a very young London-based programmer and entrepreneur, Jez San, the company originally began as an independent technical programming consultancy before shifting all of its resources into developing high-performance machine code video games. The company's name was a mythological play on words between the crew of the ship Argo and the surname of its founder (Jez San's "Argonauts").
