Description
The undisputed king of 8-bit street fighting breaks past its usual boundaries to make a grand entrance onto the Amstrad PCW circuitry. This outstanding piece of homebrew engineering, programmed by Enrique Gálvez in 2025, ports the legendary 1988 Target: Renegade from its ultimate version: the ZX Spectrum 128k [CEZ]. Far from a simple direct conversion, the project captures the pure essence of the Ocean/Imagine Software classic, adapting Mike Lamb's fluid combat mechanics and the iconic urban sprite design to a system historically confined to business and office environments [CEZ].

The plot throws us into a gritty crusade for vengeance, where we must rescue our brother from the clutches of Mr. Big, the ruthless crime boss ruling the backalleys of Scumville. Across five challenging thematic levels, players will fight their way through highly diverse criminal factions: from dangerous armed bikers in a multi-level parking lot and skinhead gangs in downtown alleys, to whip-wielding dominatrixes in the red-light district, professional bodyguards in the central park, and elite hitmen at the bar right before the final showdown.

The greatest technical feat of this port lies in its cross-hardware optimization and performance [CEZ]. On traditional Amstrad PCW computers, the game runs in a clean, high-speed monochrome mode, whereas under advanced Amstrad PCW Plus systems or PCW# mini hardware, the software fully utilizes the native Video Mode 1 to display a tailored palette of 4 simultaneous colors on screen [CEZ]. On top of that, it introduces a robust simultaneous two-player cooperative mode—a co-op milestone virtually unprecedented in the system's commercial history—and compatibility with the DKSound hardware expansion to play Gary Biasillo's unforgettable chip chiptune music through the AY-3-8912 sound processor [CEZ].

Tips and Tricks to Beat the Game
• Master the Back-Kick: Just like in Technōs' original arcade machine, kicking backward while jumping or unleashing low mule kicks is the safest strategy in Target: Renegade. It features a wider collision range than the regular punch and cleanly knocks down foes on the first impact.

• Ground Weapons: Do not miss out on baseball bats or clubs dropped by unarmed thugs in the first area. Picking them up grants a critical range advantage in later stages, especially against the relentless whip-wielding dominatrixes.

• Screen Border Management: Avoid getting cornered by skinheads or bodyguards at the far horizontal edges of the screen. Since scrolling halts your progress, enemies can easily chain hits without leaving any recovery room for your health bar.

• Tactical Cooperation (2-Player Mode): When playing in simultaneous co-op, split the screen areas. One player can bait the bikers by moving up and down, while the second runs in to strike them from open flanks.
